Wow Cold weather flying, will it be 1000g in live

I heard that you originally got it from a quest line, but now you have to pay 1000g to get it, so what im wondering is, why would blizzard make us pay for us to use what we already have, it just doesnt really make sense to me.
it will have to be puchased in live...

don't fret tho. you'll make much more than that just leveling to 77.
I would enjoy not paying 1000g for flying. Mainly because I'm poor.

Think of the poor people. We're sad and cold and have no shoes!

Think of our cold feet :(
It's called a gold sink, it is there so people like me have something to spend our gold on and don't have to raise the price of EVERYTHING assuming everyone has 10000g or more.

The quest was fine. This is just an unimaginative solution to fill in gold sinks yet again hitting the players who dont want to throw bombs on demons for the 50th time to purchase.

Revert to quest. The "Its just XXXX gold." is getting quite old. Because it keeps adding up.. We should start charging people 10 gold to use their mount as well. Its only 10 gold. I am all for gold being useful, but the original quest was fine.

So it would be nice to see it go back to a quest line.

Yeah, too bad people with multiple characters get screwed over pretty hard by it. Instead of getting one of my alts epic flight training, I'll have to spend all that gold just to get everyone to be able to fly in Northrend, which you pretty much NEED in order to do anything in Storm Peaks/Icecrown.

funny, I thought you'd be more concerned with the 5k for the epic flyer for the multiple character argument.

I know thats MY painful realizatin.
From what I've been told, the vendor who sells you the epic flying training is of the Kirin Tor Faction, and also sells epic flying skill if you don't have it already

As such, her prices decrease with more rep.
Assuming you don't want epic flying, sure.

I had to copy my main 4 times to be able to afford epic flying AND cold weather flying. However, I was able to buy just standard flying on my own and would have been able to afford cold weather flying had I not bought epic flying with copied money.

This is fine though. I just wish they would have charged from the beginning so it didn't sting so bad when they changed it.
I have 8 level 70 characters. They all have epic flyers. The last two never even bought a slow flyer. It's not that hard.

This character got cold-weather flying from the quest, which was kind of fun, except for the part in the lake, which was super annoying. The others were able to buy it without taking their gold below 1000g, just from selling the stuff they picked up on the way to 77.

Personally, I'd like to see both the quest and the cash option in the game.

But mostly, I'm tired of people who have alts whining about how expensive they are to fully equip. That's part of the downside of having several level capped characters with decent gear: you have to do some of the grinds twice. If you don't want to, you can fly slow, wear less uber gear, or just not have alts.

Then please, by all means, tell us how you so easily obtained 40,000g to dump on epic flight. No amount of farming who knows how many dailies across four characters and selling on the AH brings gold in that quickly for me. And no, I don't buy a bunch of useless crap, I hardly buy anything off the AH.

And thanks for grouping me in with the people who do nothing but whine, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. My complaint is with the removal of an entertaining little quest for a fee to use something I already paid for, and in the case of my warlock, thousands. Gold sinks are fine, but this is not where they should be putting one.
Many of you are are like "it's ezcake", yes you may enjoy grinding dailies every day for days on end, but not everyone does. Some of us prefer doing other things with our time and don't have gold falling out of our pockets because we've nothing to spend it on. Fine, you make gold relatively easy. I don't. I'm not going to be a jerk and play the AH. I put stuff up cheap for people at that level to be able to AFFORD IT. When I have bank alts buying my stuff I wish they'd go DIAF because it then takes those items away from those who need them probably the most. I don't enjoy dailies because they are painfully boring. And, depending on class/spec, can take anywhere from 30 minutes to complete or several hours. (Gotta love those random drop quests, too.)

There should be two options. The quest for poor people like myself who much prefer to play than spend hours a day farming dailies for cash (I'd rather gouge my eyes out in all honesty). Then you could have the gold sink in Dalaran for those who have nothing but money to throw away. (I'm sure those of you with tons of gold will enjoy the caravan mounts and all... expensive and gives you a reason to spend money.)

There is no reason to be paying to know how to fly again. On this character (only on beta though) and my main (netherdrake), I have epic flying mounts. I've already spent a crapton of gold on flying and flying quick. Why should I be punished again? Say what you want about gold sinks, but I don't want to be spending every single gold I saved from 70 to 77 to buy the skill. I want to be able to save it should I need anything down the line, be it for mats for crafting something or what have you.
Yes its not hard to inform people. Hell paladins don't seem to have a problem for the epic mount. Should have just made them buy that back in the day huh....
Go back and read my post, post number 130 on this thread if you haven't already. Blizzard says that it wasn't obvious where to start the quest, I solved that problem for them by thinking about it for about ten seconds.
honestly its 1k gold. we worked for our 5k gold mounts. and u have to wait till 77 to get it. those new ones that arent 70 already will just have to do what everyone else did before. sell items, get help from guildies, its not that big of a deal.

and when i told my guild it changed from a quest to 1k gold, they just shrugged. few of us have epic flyers, but honestly 1k isnt all that much to earn i earn 300g a day from dailies in outland and when i leveled my toons to 70 (not just my lock) i had no problems paying 1k to get my initial flyer back then.

im not going to complain all that much about this one, but i feel there are plenty of money sinks in this game that it is a bit much to make just 1k gold more in this case. i mean honestly theres a 20k gold mount to purchase. isnt that a big enough money sink right there?

in all reality between the new fun mounts, toys and many other things we can sink our money on, i can see both sides of the coin. i think more players will give the devs a debt of gratitude if they skip over this cost just because they have had to pay for one at 30 (some of us at 40) then 60, twice at 70 and now again at 77. when i first heard of the quest i breathed a sigh of relief cuz i was thinking (its about time we got a little break) but i wasnt too put out by the 1k gold. my question was more of "for that low cost at this point, why even bother?"
I transfered my warlock to beta with only 100ish gold. By the time i hit 77 i had about 1100 gold after leveling up my enchanting and buying my spells as i go. Its not hard to get gold in wrath.
To me it's not that 1kg isn't a lot of gold at that level.

It's also not that I already paid for riding my regular flying mounts.

It's that this is an -incredibly- uncreative way to do it. We have a 15/20k mammoth mount in Wrath, plus a few other gold sinks already.

Was this really needed, after saying we wouldn't be doing this? ESPECIALLY with the reasoning you're giving for it? That it wasn't an intuitive enough quest to get? Well hell, then just have a quest at a flightmaster or in the central hub, Dalaran, to point us to that quest. Or have an npc mail us.

Are you telling me that you couldn't think of a better way to do a money sink?

Now, far be it from me to call you guys lazy. You're not. I know it. Wrath is an incredible expansion. And THAT is exactly why this blindsided me so much. It's an uncharacteristically lazy move. The questline wasn't intuitive enough, so you just said "To hell with it" and slapped that 1k cost right in there. That's what it looks like, if you're sticking with that reasoning.

I'm confident that you could think of a multitude of optional money sinks that players would NO DOUBT choose at least one or two to take part in.

To pull this after having such a fun and different way to go about learning cold weather flying, after seeing all the creativity you've put into this expansion, is just such a let down.

C'mon, Blizzard. Keep impressing me.
When I looked at the trainer, it said requires 225 riding, not 300. You don't have to have epic flight to learn cold weather, unless that's changed.

I'm one of those who will be impacted, a relatively new player. I'm sitting on about 3800 gold, and doing my dailies as often as I play to try to hit 5k.

Only I decided NOT to now, since the expansion will hit in a month, and I won't be able to fly til 77. from what I've seen in the beta, I'll be having enough fun I won't wanna go back to Outland for much of anything.

So, why 'waste' that money getting an epic I can't use. Guess I'll just shell out 6K instead of 5K at 77, and be happy.

Don't think I'll grind out a drake though, from what I'm reading, they can be aquired from other places, which frankly, I think stinks. That mount should stay with Netherwing, for those that did the grind. You want one, YOU go do the grind. Seems fair to me.
1k isn't low its more of the median..
With achievements tracking you can tell how much gold you have made to date.. I, after doing half of fjord, 1/3 tundra and half of dragon blight, barely managed 1390g for those quests not to mention the OL quests i had to do to even get to the new areas on my DK..

From start at lvl 55 to lvl 77 i amassed $1773g total, doing all the Ol quests up through Nagrand.

i have achievement records to prove this fact as well which shows how many quests done and the total i made for them..

Aren't facts great =)~
Ok, your reasoning behind cold weather flying, too cold for the mounts, which is reasonable. However, why is there not a lesser version of this required for ground mounts? Yes its cold up there, but just as cold for the mounts down on the ground. I'm pretty sure the reasoning for not being able to fly around the base continents will be "law" or something related to that, but slapping an ability to all the sudden fly your mount in the cold is kind of silly. If you're going to make it semi-realistic in such nature, at least go the distance with it. Perhaps some kinda armor kit you apply to the mount at level 78, giving it weathering protection. Just my two cents.
Why not leave in the quest for those who would have liked to do it that way?

Two options for obtaining cold weather flying:

1) Complete quest.
2) Pay 1,000G.

What's wrong with variety? Why remove interesting content?
The quest line was not removed. It is there but you don't get cold weather flying from it. Plans change. Be glad they put the gold sinks on optional things like new mounts and didn't decide "well, guess we'll make CWF a gold sink - let's make it 20,000g".
It seems a little odd to make it a required cost to get this skill when the idea behind it was very good. If you say its not as intuitive why not just add a quest in dalaran like the one in shatt saying hey go here to get CWF. Can have unique quest names and keep with the flow of question for a skill instead of just buying them like the four before it. I personally like the idea of it being quested and i feel there are already enough "money sinks" as you like to call them in that adding this one doesn't seem well placed.

Hopefully this isn't overlooked by blue attention.
